Ways you can help St. Vincent de Paul in 2018
Go Make a Difference!

In addition to our current programs, we are seeking to find new and innovative ways to give our clients a ‘hand up’ out of poverty. In addition to money contributions, here are ways you can help:

Sponsor the Food Pantry: Continue your efforts to fill our First Sunday Empty Basket. Make it part of your monthly routine. Everyday items we are most in need of: cereal, jelly/preserves, canned tuna or chicken, granola bars, ramen, canned vegtables, pasta, and sauce. If you have students in our school, also contribute generously to seasonal food drives.

Volunteer in the Food Pantry: Help is needed ‘behind the scenes’ to prepare for food distributions-checking the donation barrels; picking up food from the Food Bank (Wednesday morning before each pantry); packing bags (Thursday or Friday before each pantry); and sorting donations we receive from stores (Friday before each pantry). Help is also needed to staff the pantry on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9 AM to about 11:30 AM. We need help filling and passing out bags, registering clients, and maintaining records.

Staff our Message Line: Receive recorded calls for help by checking the parish office St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) message line daily from your home or cell phone.

Recordkeeping: In addition to the pantry records, we are required to maintain detailed records of our finances and of the families we help with rent, utilities, etc. If you like working with numbers and databases, this is for you!

Go on Home Visits: Respond to requests for help by going in pairs to visit families in their homes to bring them hope, go through their budget, and assess their needs. Help is needed to coordinate home visit teams as well.

Offer Professional Services: We are in need of skilled professionals who do car repair, home repair, etc. to respond to occasional requests for low-cost or free services for our clients.

Learn and Lead: The Contra Costa District Council of SVDP is providing new training programs to teach Vincentian volunteers how to help families move out of poverty, and on actions we can take to address the root causes of poverty. Help lead our ministry in new directions!

Come to our meetings to learn more! Our next meetings will be: Tuesday, February 20th, and Tuesday, March 6th, 7 PM, in the Fr. Maxwell Conference Room next to the church.

Or, leave a message for SVDP at the parish office (510-232-5659) and we will contact you.
